Companies House now requires mandatory identity verification for company directors and people with significant control. It’s all about improving transparency and reducing fraud in the UK’s corporate sector — and JVCA, the friendly accountants, is fully registered as an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP), so we can verify your ID quickly and securely. And once we have verified your ID then we tell Companies House who issue your personal code number.
What Is ID Verification?
It’s the process of confirming that you are who you say you are.
You provide your information and documents, and we check that they’re accurate, valid, and belong to you — simple as that.
Why ID Verification Is Needed
Since November 2025, Companies House requires:
- All company directors, and
- Anyone with Significant Control (typically a 25%+ shareholder)
…to complete identity verification.
The aim is to make sure everyone listed on the public register is identifiable by the authorities.
What Information Do You Provide?
You’ll be asked for:
- Full name
- Date of birth
- Phone number
- Email address
- A photo of a government‑issued ID (passport, driving licence, etc.)
Sometimes additional documents are needed. You simply upload a photo of those too.
How You Can Verify Your Identity
You have a few options — all supported by JVCA:
1. Old‑School Paper Verification (In‑Person)
Bring your original documents to us.
We verify both you and the documents, then confirm everything directly to Companies House.
2. Digital Verification – Full Biometric Check
Using our mobile app, you:
- Photograph your ID
- Take a selfie
- Scan the biometric chip in your passport
Fast, secure, and all done from your phone.
3. Digital Verification – No Biometric Scan
If your phone can’t scan a passport chip, orr you only have a driving licence, no problem.
You still upload photos of your ID and take a selfie — you’ll just need one or two extra documents instead.
Who Can Carry Out ID Verification?
Not everyone!
